Food Is Medicine

 

Today I have found out that I have finally passed some more very important courses that I have been slaving away over the last few months. I can confirm I am now an Advanced Sports and Exercise Nutritional Advisor, and a Nutritional Therapist.

These two courses have been extremely interesting and those of you that train with me will have had the pleasure of having the odd chat about them. The reason I took these courses is due to the fact that I am a firm believer that exercise is actually only 20% of the bigger picture. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being a personal trainer, its the best job in the world and I love the possibilities it gives to other people. But that alone is rarely enough and I wanted to be able to provide a service that helps with every aspect of giving a person the best version of their self. Food, and the science behind it, and problems that eating the wrong things can cause, interest me so much, and I am going to step outside my comfort zone and share with you why I feel this way and why doing these courses was important to me.

From the age of 19 I would get regularly reoccurring candida problems, it was the bane of my life, and still is to this day if its not controlled. In order for me to control this problem I had to eliminate a whole multitude of things from my diet, and at the age of 19, it was hard!!! Having said that, it worked, my problems disappeared, on top of that my skin improved, I didn’t feel fatigued, I wasn’t moody….you see, my problem was being caused by the food I ate, and once I eliminated these things, the problem was also was eliminated….albeit temporarily. This is the problem, I still am extremely intolerant to certain foods, these foods still to this day do not agree with me and my body, and I perform and feel at my best when I don’t eat them. So the solution is simple….DON’T EAT THEM!!! Easy?….NOPE!!! For anyone who has an intolerance, an allergy or a health problem that is worsened from the food they eat, they will tell you that the problematic food is very much like an addiction….you crave it, uncontrollably sometimes, to the point that you just have to have it…which is where you then have a vicious cycle. I have been caught in this cycle many times since I was 19 and first eliminated these foods, (after all I am only human), there have been lots of times I have caved, and lots of times that I have had to suffer the consequences. However over the last few years I have been extremely careful, and have managed co-exist with this problem. When I saw these courses I knew that it was something that I felt very passionate about, and knew that I would be able to use it to help other people.

So, today has been a good day, I have passed the courses, I am pretty much free of coursework (for a while) and can relax and immerse myself into my work and new knowledge and hopefully share it with lots of people who can benefit.
